What will I receive?

We are proud of our reputation for shipping the finest quality rooted cuttings available. We ship two week old, rooted plants. They are approximately 3 inches tall, and are rooted sufficiently for planting. Please note that Chrysanthemum varieties have individual characteristics, not only in flowers, but in their root structure as well. While most of our varieties will arrive with an approximately 1 to 2 inch root ball, some varieties may only have a few small hair like roots. This is normal for some slower rooting varieties (such as some spider types), and these cuttings will resume root development after proper planting and care.

The rooted cuttings will come packed in moist peat moss, and individually labeled (unless stated otherwise). Plants are bundled, bare root (unpotted) in plastic bags. Our plants leave the nursery in good growing condition, and are guaranteed to arrive in good condition, using the fastest methods possible. Any order, which is not satisfactory, must be reported to us within 10 days of arrival. After this time, we can not make any adjustments. We will not guarantee any shipment by U.S. mail.

When should I plant in my area?

The best time to plant is after all danger of frost has passed. You must determine the best planting time for your location. Chrysanthemums will bloom at their scheduled times when planted prior to July. Thus, there is no need to rush to plant in the colder areas of the U.S. We will ship every Monday from the end of February, until mid June. Please choose a shipping date when the dangers of freezing temperatures have passed in your area (unless you have a protective structure, such as a greenhouse). We have found that cuttings do better outdoors from the beginning, rather starting off indoors, because of the risk of damping off.) Please allow us at least three weeks to process your order, prior to requested ship date..

Why does shipping cost so much?

Because of the perishable nature of the cuttings, they must reach their destination within 3 days of shipment. This requires 2nd Day Air shipment to all states other than the West Coast. Since the packages contain wet material, they are heavier than packages containing dry items, (such as clothing) and prices are determined by weight. We do not attempt to make any profit on our shipping prices. But as carriers constantly raise rates, we in turn, must pass these rate increases on to the customer.

What should I do when my plants arrive?

It is most important that these plants be removed from their plastic shipping bags immediately upon arrival. Failure to do this may cause severe loss of foliage. If unable to plant immediately, separate plants and cover roots temporarily with light planting mix and moisten well. If your plants were received in a wilted condition, place roots in a shallow pan of water and mist spray leaves periodically with water until they are again turgid before planting. We recommend initial planting in 4-inch pots in a light composted soil mix for the first two weeks. Watering in of plants should contain ½ strength solution of liquid fertilizer. Apply regular protection from extremes in temperature and wind until well established. More complete cultural instructions are found on our "growing instructions" page.

All plants leave the nursery in good growing condition. If. However, plants are found in poor condition when received due to delay in transit, heat or freezing, and fail to respond to treatment, notifies us within 10 days of delivery. Beyond this time limit, we can not assume responsibility.
